Membership related questions

Can I offer or gift a membership to my friends or family?

Currently, this is not possible. For the time being, the Club provides only an individual membership. In addition, it is possible to support the activities and goals of the Club with a monetary donation.

How long is the membership valid?

Membership is established for a fixed period of 1 year after payment of the membership fee, entitlement to the discount starts in the first year from the 31st day after the date of entry. After paying another annual membership fee, membership is automatically renewed every year without a 31-day grace period until cancellation.

Example:

  • Date of payment and start of membership of the association: 01.07.2021.
  • Start of entitlement to the discount: 01.08.2021.
  • Validity of the membership: 30.06.2022.
  • Next automatic deduction of a membership fee: 30.06.2022. 
  • If the automatic withdrawal does not take place due to card exchange, you will receive a notification email, after which you have 5 days to renew your membership with the new card details.
  • If the automatic withdrawal does take place within 5 days your membership is guaranteed on an ongoing basis. For payments over 5 days, our 31-day grace period will restart, and you will only be able to claim membership benefits thereafter.
How can I renew my membership?

Your membership will be automatically renewed for another year 1 day before the expiration of your current annual membership, with an automatic, recurrent payment. From the second year, the contract is automatically extended by one year, together with the membership of the Club. If we are unable to charge your card with the membership fee and you do not renew it by entering a new card, your membership will be terminated and you will not be entitled to the discount any longer. The membership can be extended indefinitely by paying the membership fee recurrently.

How can I cancel my membership?

You can cancel your membership at any time by logging in to your account, your entitlement to the discount will remain valid for the duration of your current membership. The cancellation can only take effect on the anniversary of your membership, partial or total refund of the membership is not available.

Do I get a new membership card every year?

The membership card is used for identification only and is required in case of accident / illness. It is not necessary to keep it with you, but our colleagues will always ask for your card number for identification. We keep a record of your valid membership based on the ID number on the card. If you renew your membership with another payment, the validity of your card will be automatically extended, but we will not send you a new card.

What should I do if I lose my membership card?

In this case, please contact our colleagues by email so that we can verify the validity of your membership. If you have a valid membership, we will issue a new membership card and send it to you, the membership card number will not change. The first card is issued free of charge, we charge an additional 10 EUR + VAT per card for each card replacement.

Do I always have to keep my membership card with me?

When traveling abroad, it may be helpful to have it with you, but it is enough to have your membership number and provide it when contacting us.

Can I register company membership for my company's employees?

Payment related questions

How do I pay the membership fee?

The annual membership fee for the SkyCU Air Ambulance Club can be paid by individuals through the SimplePay system via our website. In all cases, we will issue an electronic invoice for the membership fee after payment, which will be sent to the e-mail address provided during registration.

Payment can also be made by bank transfer in the case of donations.

What should I do if my credit card expires and I receive a new credit card?

The system automatically deducts the following annual membership fees from the card from which the first payment was made. If this fails, you will be notified by email with a link, where you will be able to pay the membership fee with a new card. Credit card data may be modified at any time by logging in to your user account on our website.

Why to become a member of SkyCU Air Ambulance Club?

Members of the SkyCU Air Rescue and Air Ambulance Club can get discounted price for air ambulance transport, with or without travel insurance, within the frame of their individual membership. With the membership fee, you can also support air rescue and aero medical patient transport, and from 2022, through the Club’s scholarship program you can support the doctors of the future, who as medical students of today, do their best to finish their studies.

Is SkyCU Air Ambulance Club an insurance company?

No. SkyCU is an independent, non-profit association supported by membership fees paid by members, as well as occasional and regular donations.

I have a travel insurance policy, so why should I become a member of the Club?

As founders, our experience in the recent years has been, that having travel insurance alone is not always enough when traveling abroad. In the case of injury abroad, the cost of repatriating a patient can be enormous, and medical and / or geographical considerations are often overridden by economic factors in the decision-making process. SkyCU membership helps to provide a fixed percentage discount on air ambulance transport costs to the subscriber. Our aim with this support is to improve access to aeromedical patient transports, by also encouraging insurers in their decision during decision making process to favor this mode of transport over others.

SkyCU provides a personalized and professional service to its members 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to insurers and assistance providers, our own qualified staff can answer questions and provide reliable information about the course of patient transport. As part of the membership, we provide only technical information related to the organization of aeromedical patient transport. If the patient holds a travel insurance policy, the decision to repatriate the patient falls always under the responsibility and competence of the insurer. However, membership provides an additional opportunity to make air ambulance available in medically and / or geographically justified cases, since in exchange for the membership fee, the Club takes over a significant part of the air ambulance costs in the form of a discount supplied to the insurer, other legal entity or to a natural person.

Who can become a SkyCU Club member?

Anyone who wishes to have easier access, at a discounted price, to air ambulance capacity in a safe, reassuring and affordable way. If the member also has travel insurance, we can provide the insurer with the discount information which may encourage them to choose this fast and less burdensome mode of transport for the patient in geographically and / or medically justified cases.

How do I become a member?

Anyone can join the SkyCU Club by providing some personal information and paying the first annual membership fee.

What are the conditions for entry?

There are no special entry conditions. Anyone who is over the age of 18 and has paid the annual membership fee can be a member of the Club.

How can I use the service?
  1. If traveling from your home country to abroad for a medical treatment follow these steps:

  • Ask for quotation
  • Follow steps provided by the Dispatch Centre

 

  1. If you have an accident/injury abroad, do have travel insurance and you need to be repatriated to your home country, follow these steps:
  • Notify your travel insurance provider (if any)
  • Notify your insurance provider that you are a SkyCU Air Ambulance Club member.
  • Also notify SkyCU about the accident.
  • If the insurer contacts us, we will inform you about the possibility of a discount that will affect you and help you arrange your repatriation.

How long after the payment can I use the service?

Membership becomes effective immediately after payment, but entitlement to the discount is valid from the zero hour of the 31st day following the first payment. If your membership is renewed by automatic payment, the above restriction does not apply you will be immediately entitled for the discount.

How many times a year can I use the service?

With a membership fee, one person can claim the discount once per membership year for one destination. Note that if you have to travel abroad for a medical treatment your SkyCU membership covers discount only in one direction and not for a return trip.

How can I modify my personal data?

By logging in to your user account, you can view the personal details of your membership, and change the following data:

  • Address information (billing address)
  • User account password

If you need to modify other information, please send us the information to be changed in the form of a hand-signed, scanned letter to:  info@skycu.org.

Does the membership apply only to repatriation by air ambulance or to other (ground patient transport and / or commercial air transport) means of transport as well?

The discount can only be applied to an air ambulance transport ordered from the contracted partner of the Club.

How many escorts are accepted with the patient?

Usually not more than one, but this is always dependent upon the general condition of the patient/injured person.

From which countries may the air ambulance service be used?

Territorial scope of the service area of our contracted partner includes all European countries (with the exception of Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands); and certain areas of Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt are evaluated on an individual basis. Active war zones are an exception in all cases!

Which airports are used during patient transport?

SkyCU does not transport a patient, it is always done by the contracted partner, but in general, the flight is organized to the most suitable and available departure and arrival airport nearest the patient’s hospital.

Who takes care of ground transportation?

It is usually organized by the cost bearer, but our contracted partner also provides a full service.  Please Note: Membership discount applies to the cost of the air ambulance only.  Other related services are invoiced at full price.

How much of a discount can I expect on the price of the air ambulance?

For example, in case of an individual membership the price of the transport worth of EUR 13,500,  can be reduced to EUR 11,880 with a 12% discount on the paid membership fee. This is how much an air ambulance will cost the insured or other cost bearers, i.e.:   A SkyCU membership will reduce the cost of transport by EUR 1,620.

Can I donate anonymously?

The information provided when donating is for technical purposes only. We do not store any information you provide, it is immediately deleted from the system after the successful transaction.

Can I choose which of the projects listed on the website I would like to support?

Yes, in this case we ask that you notify our colleagues by email (info@skycu.org) so that we can ensure that the amount is used for the project(s) you have chosen. Any general or targeted donations are more than welcome.
